The Veuve Fourny Grande Réserve Brut Vertus Premier Cru is made from 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. It features fine but complex and funky aromas typical of Vertus. Quite chalky and creamy with some biscuit like characters from the Pinot Noir. Traditional ‘house’ style. Excellent combination of fruit and subtle biscuit aromas, a lovely balance of breadiness and freshness.
Plenty of forest berry pips and granny smith apple fruit in this: deep and complex-smelling but also full of sea-spray vitality. Lipsmacking, complex and pippy fruited in the mouth, with corella pear crispness and a long dry finish. Mouth-sucking and moreish to close. 9/10 - how much I like it. 94 Points; Tim White, The Australian Financial Review, October 2011
