The Turkey Flat vineyards and winery are now situated on the historic Section One property in the centre of the Barossa. The Schulz family became owners of the Turkey Flat property in around 1865 and while they continued to tend the ancient vineyard, they also developed a thriving butchers business.
The Turkey Flat Barossa Valley White blend is sourced from the Bethany and Stonewell regions of the Barossa. This wine is an even split of Marsanne and Roussanne. Picked early to hold freshness and preserve acidity, both varieties were whole bunch pressed to new and second use French Puncheons. Fermentation was completed on full solids to promote funk and layers of spice. The wine rested in oak over winter seeing regular battonage, which has added richness and length to the palate before bottling in Spring.
Estate fruit from the Bethany and Stonewell vineyards. Whole-bunch pressed, extended skin contact and (partial new) oak maturation. Marsanne/roussanne of breathtakingly sophisticated and intellectual heights. Uber-reductive, a veritable keg of gunpowder with lit fuse! Tension, energy and cut like the Barossa floor has never seen. It unites this maelstrom with astonishing coherence, grace and persistence that holds undeviating for a full 30 seconds. And it will live for decades. If you love grand cru burgundy, you'll adore this. Outclasses its price point by a country mile!
