Tua Rita is the Italian equivalent of the garagiste wines of Bordeaux, small at only 35 hectares of vines and consistently releasing some of Italy's finest red wines. Owned by Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio Bisti, the estate is located in Suvereto in Northern Maremma and then thanks to some stelar reviews in the wine press, Tua Rita has gone from a relatively unknown to a world-famous producer. Their flagship wine, a 100% Merlot, the Redigaff IGT Toscana stands effortlessly on the world stage and other wines in their quiver such as the Guisto di Notri IGT Toscana, Syrah OGT Toscana and Rosso di Notri IGT Toscana share a similar pedigree.
The 2004 Perlato del Bosco, a blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, is a gorgeous wine, with expressive aromatics and plenty of vibrant sweet dark fruit supported by a lively sense of minerality. Richly structured on the palate, it offers much length but it will require another year or two in the bottle to show the full breadth of its expressiveness. Readers who want to enjoy the wine sooner should give it several hours of air. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2014+.
