With thirty years of history and heritage, TarraWarra Estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay represent the vision of Marc and Eva Besen to produce premium wine crafted to bring out the particular aspects of each vintage while consistently concentrating on balancing structure and elegance. These wines are of great character and depth, reflecting the outstanding quality of the 100% estate grown fruit from the unique microclimate of the site chosen specifically for these varieties.
Made with the same approach as the Reserve wine, the differences in this wine result from some tank fermentation as well as a selection of different barrels and fruit parcels than those used to make the Reserve Chardonnay. The wine has grapefruit and lemon zest aromas with underlying notes of cashew nuts. The palate has a creamy yet fine texture derived from 10 months on lees and a lovely drive with persistence of flavour. With oak and tank maturation, the wine shows an elegant complexity with appealing freshness.
An eclectic mix of clones, hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, 50% fermented in tank, 50% in oak of various sizes, forests and toasts, no mlf. Good mouthfeel; balance of stone fruits, apple and grapefruit; oak subtly balanced. Drink to: 2028; Price: $30.00; Date Tasted: Feb 2020; Alcohol: 13.2%; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
