Established in 1860 Tahbilk is one of Australia’s most beautiful & historic wineries, located in the Nagambie Lakes region of Central Victoria and one of the nation’s premium viticultural areas. The vineyard comprises 200 hectares of vines including whites of Marsanne, Viognier and Roussanne; the reds – Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre as well as the traditional varieties. Tahbilk is further blessed with an abundance of “old vine” plantings including Shiraz from 1860, Cabernet Sauvignon back to 1949 and Marsanne from 1927. Tahbilk is the first Australian winery to be carboNZero certified at both an organisation and product level and one of only eight wineries in the world.
59% Grenache and 41% Mourvèdre to arrive at a fresh, mouth-wateringly dry wine of immediate enjoyment. Bright and appealing red berry fruits sit alongside tantalisingly savoury nuances in a lighthearted package that will surprise with its unexpected depth of character.
Cast with a Rhône eye but delivered in a very Australian style with pristine, juicy, crunchy fruit to the fore. Bright confectionery pink. Red cherry, raspberry, strawberry, boiled lolly with pomegranate tartness that puckers just so. The degree of acidity/tannin meets the fruit and then just a little bit more. Got the balance just right. Drink to: 2025; Price: $22.00; Date Tasted: November 2020; Alcohol: 12%; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; Jeni Port; James Halliday Wine Companion
Three years in, three very enjoyable releases of this rose. This has drinkability written all over it. It’s fresh, zippy, flows with cherry and apple flavours and is refreshing through the finish.
