Dr. Edge is made by Peter Dredge. Cutting his teeth at Petaluma under the watchful gaze of Brian Croser, he was lured to Tasmania and now resides in Hobart, working with his own label (Dr. Edge) as well as stepping into winemaking duties at Meadowbank.

Dr Edge Tasmania Chardonnay 2019
A blend of Tamar Valley, East Coast & Derwent Valley fruit, which just about covers it. Are friends electric? Well, this wine is, including a full laser show. Lemon rind, bread dough, wheatgerm, aniseed, cinnamon and white peach. Intense, precise, so much crunch and energy, chalk dust, green olive and brine, searing long finish. Drink while wearing sunglasses, and little else. That’s how pure and cool it is. Tasted: Jan20; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $50; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2021 - 2029+; Rated: 95 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front

Dr Edge Chardonnay East 2019
This is the most rugged and textural of the trio of Chardonnay from 2019. More fruit and weight, chalky texture, slight bitterness of lemon rind, white peach and other citrus, good length and a zesty finish. A little whiff of struck match here too. Precise but slightly rough around the edges. Will improve with more time in bottle. Tasted: Jan20; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $50; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2021 - 2028+; Rated: 94+ Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front

Dr Edge Chardonnay South 2019
Whole cluster pressed to old oak casks for natural ferment then left untouched for 9 months. “Come on, come on, come on, come on / Now touch me, babe / Can’t you see that I am not afraid?” This is Peter Dredge’s ‘Blue Steel’. It’s impossibly pure and long, crunch of acidity, a minor amount of almond gloss, white peach and citrus, aniseed, wheatgerm, a little funk and smoke, and a slight spiciness and chalk dust as it surges into the distance. Riesling-like in intensity, in some respects, yet identifiably Chardonnay in delivery. Superb. Tasted: Jan20; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $50; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2021 - 2030; Rated: 97 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front

Dr Edge Chardonnay North 2019
Maybe the prettiest of the trio, with a floral/vanilla top note, flesh and fine powder texture, almond and white fruit, but with lemony crunch, pure acidity, something of a tart green apple flavour, and a long finish, blackboard chalk dust cleaning up as it goes. It’s outstanding, and just over the line for a whopping, throbbing, 96 points. Tasted: Jan20; Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $50; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2021 - 2030; Rated: 96 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
