Mountadam High Eden Chardonnay 2017
Mountadam, a proud estate, has surged back into top gear over the last few years, crafting some truly stellar wines. I love the use of oak here. Not shy, following 12-14 months in barrique, it nevertheless serves as an adjunct, toning the cavalcade of stone fruit flavours while providing welcome signposts for the savoury, exceptionally long, solidsy/nutty finish. The acid is a plume. Juicy and palate-whetting. As Burgundian as Australia gets. Drink to: 2028; Price: $45.00; Date Tasted: Dec 2018; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 96 Points; Ned Goodwin MW; James Halliday Wine Companion

Pirramimma 1892 Chardonnay 2018
A blend of grapes grown in McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills, this is fabulous fragrant on the nose showing golden peach, mango, lemon peel, nougat and cedar characters. The palate displays excellent weight and succulent fruit flavours together with stylish oak nuances, finishing wonderfully long and delicious. Tasted: February 2020; At its best: Now to 2025; Price: $30.00; Rating: 94 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit

Tuerong Park Mornington Chardonnay 2019
This is gorgeously composed and elegantly expressed on the nose showing nectarine, fresh fig, rockmelon and vanillin oak characters, leading to a concentrated palate that’s brilliantly focused and persistent. It’s delightfully textured with creamy mouthfeel, finishing long and refined. At its best: 2021 to 2024. Price: $45.00. Tasted: Feb 2020; Rating: 94 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit

Ingram Road Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2019
Hand picked, whole-bunch pressed, wild-yeast fermented in French barriques, partial mlf for 8 months. There's a tangy, lively edge to the white stone-fruit flavour and citrus-tinged acidity. A remarkably good chardonnay at any price, let alone this. While it's ready now, it will age with grace. Drink to: 2030; Price: $22.00; Date Tasted: Sept 2020; Alcohol: 12.5%; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
