Few wine regions in France can match the Loire for its combination of sheer natural beauty, fine châteaux and pristine wines of terroir. It is here that Sauvignon Blanc reaches its apogee in the appellations of Sancerre. Sancerre’s hilltop exposition lies on the famous Kimmeridgian limestone clay. Flinty, fresh and energetic, the Sauvignon Blanc from here remains a world benchmark which has a cult following in the face of the completely different style emanating from the same grape in NZ or Australia.

Thierry Merlin Cherrier Sancerre 2018
Pale, fresh colour, with a similarly fresh aroma of clean herbs and lemon juice, subtle but very attractive sauvignon blanc varietal cues. The wine is intense and focused, refined and precise on the middle-palate. Great balance and a clean, seamless finish that lingers. A deliciously refreshing dry white. Tasted: July 2020; Drink: 2020 to 2026; Price: $50.00; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 94 Points; Huon Hooke; The Real Review

Fontaine Audon Sancerre 2018
The 2018 Sancerre Château de Fontaine-Audon is a charming, nicely balanced, medium-bodied effort offering pretty white peach and citrus fruits as well as some classic Loire sappy herb and minerality, nicely integrated yet racy acidity and a clean, crisp finish. Drink this impeccably made, versatile Sancerre over the coming 2-4 years. Rating: 90 Points; Jeb Dunnuck

de Thauvenay Sancerre 2018
The flint soil of the estate shows in this mineral-textured wine. Its hard edge will soften over the next few months into a richly patterned wine. The intense acidity also needs to calm down before this ripe wine is ready to drink. Wait until mid-2020. Rating: 90 Points; Roger Voss; Wine Enthusiast

Pascal Jolivet Sancerre 2018
Young and racy, this crisp wine is full of white fruits, acidity and herbal flavors, with a bright, light mineral texture. This is textbook Sancerre, lively, fruity and ready to drink. Wine Enthusiast; Tangy, with a mix of thyme and lime pith leading the way, backed by gooseberry and flint notes through the finish. Drink now. Wine Spectator
