Ordinarily, we would be fortunate enough to feature two or three 97 Point rated Pinots each year, especially given that on almost all occasions, said wines are made in miniscule amounts, almost always a few hundred cases at best and almost always they aren't cheap. What we have here is a new StarDozen featuring 3 bottles each from 4 renowned producers from 4 of Australia's best cool climate Pinot Noir spots in the Macedon, Adelaide Hills, Central Victoria and the Mornington Peninsula. All wines rating 97 Points and all significantly below their retail price. This is a rare and extremely limited opportunity.

The StarDozen consists of the following:

3 bottles    Epis Macedon Pinot Noir 2017
3 bottles    Mount Terrible Pinot Noir 2015
3 bottles    Clyde Park Block D Pinot Noir 2017
3 bottles    Montalto Merricks Block Pinot Noir 2016

Epis Macedon Pinot Noir 2017
The longevity of Epis Pinot is Burgundian like, with a number of wines I've tried that are nearing or past their 18th birthday still fresh and vibrant, with the 2016 built in the same mould. There is a mineral line of acidity and taut baseline of fine tannin that give structure and contrast to finely filamented red berry fruits, with a savoury streak that is lifted by oak induced spice. The finish is long and gives a touch of blood orange to lingering dark cherry fruit. A tremendous expression of Pinot Noir. Rating: 97 Points; Patrick Eckel; The Wine Reviewer

Mount Terrible Pinot Noir 2015
Estate-grown, hand-picked clones 114, 115, 777 and MV6, 3 days cold soak in an open fermenter with 10% whole bunches, post-ferment maceration, matured for 18 months in French oak. The full crimson-purple colour introduces a very high quality, ultra-fragrant pinot with the depth, complexity and length reminiscent of high quality Burgundies. Made with a sure touch. Drink to: 2030; Price: $42.00; Date Tasted: Jan 2018; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday; James Halliday Wine Companion

Clyde Park Block D Pinot Noir 2017
Clone MV6 planted '98. Like all the Clyde Park grapes, hand-picked, 8-day wild ferment with 20% whole bunches, matured for 8 months in French oak (20% new), 130 dozen made. Light, clear colour; the fragrant bouquet exudes red fruits and spices, the palate long silky, and delicious. Elegance and poise takes the day. Drink to: 2030; Price: $75.00; Date Tasted: Mar 2018; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion

Montalto Merricks Block Pinot Noir 2016
The most satisfying and convincing of the three Montalto Pinots, with the greatest intensity and focus. Wild strawberries and spices drive the bouquet, opening the way for the perfectly pitched palate and its silver stream of red berries, the purity of the wine exceptional. Trophy Winewise '18, three gold medals. 210 dozen made. Drink by: 2030; Price: $70.00; Date Tasted: Sept 2018; Alcohol: 13.6%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
