Ordinarily, we would be fortunate enough to feature one or two 97 Point rated Cabernets each year, especially given that on almost all occasions, said wines are made in miniscule amounts, almost always a few hundred cases at best and almost always they aren't cheap. What we have here is the StarDozen: 97 Point Cabernet Collection, featuring 3 bottles each from 4 renowned producers. All wines rating 97 Points from Australia's leading wine critics and all significantly below their retail price. This is a rare and extremely limited opportunity.

The StarDozen consists of the following:

3 bottles        Wynns Coonawarra Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
3 bottles        Warramunda Cabernets 2018
3 bottles        Amelia Park Cabernet Merlot 2018
3 bottles        St Hugo Barossa Coonawarra Cabernet Shiraz 2017

Wynns Coonawarra Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
The colour is very deep, concentrated red/purple and the bouquet is a deep, brooding mix of blackberry violets, blueberry and blackcurrant. Perfect fruit ripeness. Oak is very background, and the palate is full-bodied and beautifully-structured, with the right amount of firmness in the tannins which run the full length of the palate and leave the finish cleansing and dry, the aftertaste refreshing and moreish. A superb wine and a classic of both variety and region. Drink 2021 to 2045; Price: $45.00; Alcohol: 13.7%; Rating: 97 Points; Huon Hooke; The Real Review

Warramunda Cabernets 2018
The wine celebrates the vineyards 20th anniversary and is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It is a wine that exudes class and has all the hallmarks to be a remarkable wine over the coming decades. Yarra Valley meets left Bank Bordeaux. The wine is a deep red in the glass, the nose opens with time after initially showing graphite and blackberry before subtle influence of dark chocolate, old leather and oak derived spice. The palate has a firm baseline of tannin and acid that is met in equal measure by drying dark fruits, tobacco and dark chocolate build on the mid palate with expressive blackberry and a weave of spice to finish. A wine worth seeking out. Drink to: 2020 - 2045; Closure: Cork; Price: $55.00; Tasted: August 2020; Alcohol: 14%; Rating: 97 Points; Patrick Eckel; Wine Reviewer

Amelia Park Cabernet Merlot 2018
75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 8% Malbec. Vibrant, bright and enticing, with plush cassis, spiced plum, black forest cake and lemongrass aromas leading through to seamless oak, rolling tannins and savoury, plummy, lush black berry fruit. Rating: 97 Points & Platinum Medal; Decanter World Wine Awards 2020

St Hugo Barossa Coonawarra Cabernet Shiraz 2017
Follows in the spirit, if not the letter, of Penfolds Bin 60A, this 51/49% blend, 86% from the Barossa Valley, 14% from Coonawarra, was matured in French oak (33% new) for 18 months. An exceptional wine that has taken the somewhat austere character of Coonawarra and cabernet from a cool vintage into something else, rich and supple overflowing with fruit. As time goes by, elegance will start to appear, making a very good wine into a great one. Drink to: 2047; Price: $58.00; Date Tasted: Feb 2020; Alcohol: 14.7%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
