Located in the heart of Australia’s iconic Barossa wine region, St Hallett has been producing fine wines since it was established in 1944. All the fruit used in St Hallett wine is grown in the Barossa. It is their dedication to keeping parcels separate through fermentation and maturation - combined with the Barossa’s rich and diverse range of vines and soils - that allows them to craft an exciting range of full flavoured and interestingly textured wines which are savoured around the world and recognised as benchmarks of the region.

An acknowledged icon of the Barossa, St Hallett Old Block is an elegant and seamless Shiraz widely recognised as world class. Derived purely from low cropping old vines of 60 to over 100 years of age, Old Block Shiraz is by its very nature exclusive. Old Block Shiraz showcases the harmony to be found between Barossa’s two valley sub-regions. Unique sites in the warmer Barossa Valley contribute a rich foundation while the adjacent higher altitude and cooler Eden Valley confers texture, seamless mineral structure and an elegant floral vitality.

92yo vines, hand-picked, tank and open fermenters, 10 days on skins, matured in French hogsheads and puncheons (25% new) for 18 months. As magnificently rich and deeply flavoured as expected. Blackberry and blackcurrant, then a move to licorice, onto cedary oak and supple tannin providing texture and structure. Drink to: 2046; Date Tasted: Jan 2020; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday; Wine Companion
