The Agricultural Company Giovanni Sordo is in the heart of the well-known Barolo region, in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto - just a few kilometers away from Alba, in the province of Cuneo. It is a family run winery, now in the hands of Giorgio - Giovanni's son - the third generation of a family who has been tending and producing wines for more than a century. The estate was founded in 1912 by the great-father Joseph, but the real turnover came with His son John who - together with His Wife Mary, the real witness of the family's story - bought several vineyards of Nebbiolo for Barolo - the Sorì in Piedmontese language - among the best in the Barolo wine district.
This vineyard, wholly exposed at midday, shines like a jewel in the splendid winegrowing area of Verduno. Already a hundred years ago the Monvigliero hill was esteemed to be an amazing area for the Nebbiolo growing by all the producers of Barolo.
This wine boasts a magnificent garnet red colour with beautiful glints of ruby; legs with full and lingering tears draw to the fore its clarity. The bouquet is elegant, intense, full and lingering; notes of dried rose, forest floor, sweet tobacco and spices complete the nose. The great structure – together with an intense warmness – please the mouth. Captivating ripe tannins evolve into a fresh and balanced sweetness. Its range of flavours is intensified by notes of chocolate, mature fruit and spices. Monvigliero is perfectly balanced, able to convince and satisfy even the most demanding wine lovers.
