Skillogalee is set amongst wooded hills in the heart of the picturesque Sevenhill subregion, part of South Australia’s world-renowned Clare Valley, one of Australia’s oldest wine regions. Established in 1970, the family-owned vineyards and winery have been releasing award-winning hand-crafted wines for over 50 years. Our grapes are grown in our own sustainably managed vineyards and produce wines with an exceptional expression of place.
The grapes for this dry Riesling are grown on low-yielding vines, on the highest slopes of the Skillogalee estate at about 500 metres above sea level. The family-owned vineyard is managed in accordance with sustainable farming practices to produce the most succulent expression of fruit and terroir. The fruit is processed in a number of individual parcels, with each contour and block of vines picked as it reached its optimum ripeness and flavour. Each parcel is then fermented separately, allowing us to foster the individual characteristics of each, before blending immediately prior to bottling.
The wine is bright straw in appearance, with a green tinge. The nose has a perfumed lift of jasmine, orange blossom spice and lemon zest. The palate is full-flavoured with excellent fruit concentration and texture. Flavours of lemon, lime zest and pith prevail, with hints of citrus spice and succulent, juicy acidity emerging thereafter. Structurally, this wine has impressive length, a lively natural acid backbone and a mouth-wateringly powerful finish.
