Singlefile are a boutique, family run winery dedicated to making single vineyard wines from select sites in the Great Southern of Western Australia. Their name pays homage to the geese who waddle in single file around the estate and the Latin on our crest translates to the pursuit of excellence – a principle they try and live by every day.
Singlefile Wines are unique expressions of Western Australia’s Great Southern. The approach is to track down the best fruit across the sub-regions of this corner of the earth, then apply minimal intervention to craft singular examples of the Singlefile style, stamped with the crest. Singlefile Wines are made in a thoughtful and refined style, with elegance and fruit-driven complexity and an enticing length of flavour.
Like all good Cabernets, the colour of Singlefile’s Frankland River expression is dark and broody, with aromas of blackcurrant, plum and cassis. Take a sip and be enticed by juicy dark fruit flavours, a good acid backbone and fine-grained tannins. The finish is long but soon enough you‘ll head back for more of the same. Put it away for 10-15 years or drink it while it’s fresh and young with a roast lamb shoulder, vegies and crisp potatoes.
Hand-picked and sorted, 12 days cold soak before fermentation and 10 days post-ferment maceration, matured for 15 months in Bordeaux barriques (40% new). Tasted 20 days after bottling, and naturally needed a Bex and a good lie-down. However, all the ingredients of blackcurrant and plum fruit, ripe tannins and oak are there, as is the all-important balance. Drink to: 2032; Price: $39.00; Date Tasted: Sept 2018; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 95 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
