Silkwood's focus is on quality fruit, and winemaking is focused on expressing the distinctive traits that each variety is renowned for. Set in Pemberton’s premier wine growing region amidst towering “karri” forests, Silkwood’s 24 hectare vineyard is blessed with gravelly soils and cool, even temperatures during the ripening periods. It was these characteristics that confirmed the decision to establish Silkwood Estate at this site in 1998.
The 2017 Riesling is bright straw with green hue. Pure varietal aromas of fresh citrus, lifted floral nuances and a hint of minerality. Lime zest and floral flavours with a crisp mineral edge. An elegant wine, which will develop greater complexity with careful cellaring. Cellar for up to 8-10 years.
A year older and the first signs of maturity appearing. The colour is moving to straw, the first signs of bottle-aged toast making an appearance with the citrus fruit and light florals. While not as tightly coiled as the '18, the nervy lemon acidity is still there, producing great line, length and refreshment.
