Light to mid-yellow colour. The bouquet is smoky at first from struck-match-like reduction, the palate intense and refined, concentrated and subtly powerful, with length and harmony, softness and approachability. Grapefruity mid-palate and seamless acidity. Quite delicious, and I suspect aeration or bottle-age will bring forth more complexity and moderate the smokiness. Superb refinement and elegance from this high-altitude vineyard source. This has a peach and lemon edge with hints of honeysuckle and grilled white peaches. There’s an intense acidity kick here. Power delivered with elegance. Grilled hazelnuts to close. Drink or hold. Date Tasted: Dec 2019; Rating: 96 Points & Top 100 Wine of Australia 2019; James Suckling
All four Bernard clones 76, 95, 96 and 277, then the usual winemaking techniques, but the quality of this wine is anything but usual. For the record, chilled overnight, whole-bunch pressed to new and used French puncheons. This is an utterly brilliant wine, elegant and intense, the fruit flavours reflecting the glorious vintage. Drink to: 2037; Price: $90.00; Date Tasted: Sept 2019; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 98 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
