The vineyards of Seville Estate are located in the cooler, southern regions of the Yarra Valley. Graham and Margaret Van Der Meulen purchased Seville Estate in December 2005, having followed their passion for cool climate wines. Their vision is to build on Seville’s reputation for excellence in production of boutique wines.
The Estate range is made entirely from our own vineyards. The intention is to show the true expression of the site, using a combination of old vines planted in 1972 and our younger vines planted in 1996. All fruits are handpicked and sorted in the vineyard to preserve the best fruit quality.
Beautifully perfumed and lifted showing red berry fruits, spice and hint of sweet nutty oak. The wine is complex showing cherry/ strawberry fruits matched with more earthy characters of rhubarb and nutmeg. Whole bunch fermentation adds lift, savouriness and texture to the wine. The tannins are fine and supple while the acidity adds freshness and length to the finish. A great Pinot Noir that (while young) deserves a decanter before showing its true potential.
The vivid crimson hue has the clarity the best pinot noir winemakers achieve. It's all about appearing to keep your hands off - you have to meet pinot on the terms it dictates, and understand the vinous alchemy at work. The length of this wine will hit you the moment you wonder whether it's not coming. But it's then relentless, with aromas and flavours of wild strawberries, cherries (red and black), and pomegranate.
