The vineyards of Seville Estate are located in the cooler, southern regions of the Yarra Valley. Graham and Margaret Van Der Meulen purchased Seville Estate in December 2005, having followed their passion for cool climate wines. Their vision is to build on Seville’s reputation for excellence in production of boutique wines.
The Reserve range is estate grown and made, expressing the very best wines from a vintage and only released in exceptional years. The reserve wines are only produced in small quantities with fruit mainly sourced from our 1972 plantings. The wines are designed to have extended cellaring potential.
Dark crimson red with a slight purple hue. Amazingly aromatic showing all spice, sweet red fruits, rhubarb and earthiness. The wine is elegant and refined with complex layered textures that dance across the palate adding depth and intrigue. The tannins are structured but fine adding a slight dustiness to the finish. The acidity gives freshness to the wine while the whole bunch component improves sweet fruits, earthiness and savouriness that are well integrated. A complex and lifted style that will improve with cellaring.
Vines planted '72, hand-picked and vineyard-sorted, wild yeast open-fermented, 28 days on skins, 10 months in used French oak. The old vines invest this with lusciousness (not part of the Estate), yet keep it light on its feet. The array of red and black berry fruits, cracked pepper, licorice, spice and oak are lined up with the precision of a Chinese army parade.
