During 160 years of winemaking, Seppelt has built a reputation of innovation and unswerving dedication to quality. The Seppelt philosophy involves harnessing the strengths of each viticultural region to create varietally and regionally expressive wines of great character. Seppelt has had more experience with this unique Australian wine style than any other winemaker.
Seppelt’s prized Drumborg Vineyard Range is sourced from the mature, cool-climate Seppelt Drumborg Vineyard in South-West Victoria’s Henty Region. Planted in 1964 by Karl Seppelt and swept by icy Winds from the Southern Ocean, it is one of the Southern-most vineyards of mainland Australia.
50% whole bunch/50% whole berry open fermentation, matured for 8 months in French puncheons and barriques (32% new). Deeper hue than the Pinot Meunier, with more purple. This is a ravishing wine, the bouquet expressive, the palate explosive, with a profusion of red and blue berries, rhubarb and spice given texture and structure by savoury tannins and a nudge of oak. Drink to: 2032; Price: $45.00; Date Tasted: May 2021; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
Medium to full red/purple colour, with a very spicy bouquet incorporating some char-oak together with raspberry, red cherry and darker cherry. The wine is very intense on the tongue, rich and deep yet delicate and refined in its texture. Sweet strawberry, raspberry and pot-pourri flavours resonate long on the mid-palate and aftertaste. A thoroughly delightful pinot. The best yet from this maker, I feel. Date Tasted: Jun 2021; Drink: 2021 to 2032; Price: $45.00; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 95 Points & Ranked 2 of 58 for Pinot Noir from Victoria 2020; Huon Hooke; The Real Review
