In 1850, 12 miles north east of Penola, Mr John Smith established a sheep station and called the site Comaum. By 1888, with the arrival of more families to the area, Comaum School was opened. Our premium Coonawarra vineyard is situated on the original school house site, and each year a special wine is released in its honour.
Powerful and vibrant blackberry and ripe mulberry, with underlying notes of savoury roasted nuts and black olive. Persistent dark fruit, fine tannins and integrated subdued barrel characters deliver an intricate wine with intensity, elegance and graceful aging potential.
Opulent and graceful; this magnificent red shows crème de cassis, vanillin oak, subtle tobacco and warm spice aromas on the nose, leading to a powerfully expressed palate that's superbly weighted and persistent. It's brilliantly structured by loads of fine-grained tannins, finishing impressively long and engaging. At its best: 2024 to 2038; Price: $80.00; Rating: 96 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
Take your time here. This wine is coiled very tightly and benefits from several hours in a decanter. Even better still, if you manage it, a few years in the cellar. It will only be better for it. Right now, it’s still quite remarkable wine, dark cassis berry characters densely packed, intense and concentrated with vibrant fruit from start to finish. Around that core, the oak is charry yet subdued and supportive, the palate structure full, tight, and very well mannered. Classy drinking. Drink: 2025 to 2035; Price: $80.00; Rating: 95 Points; Tony Love; Winepilot
