The Rochford Wines story begins with owner and CEO Helmut Konecsny who first purchased the Hill Road property in 2002 with established vines first planted in 1992. Helmut’s passion for the region has seen Rochford go on to celebrate the diverse terroir of the Yarra Valley. Rochford’s Winemakers Kaspar Herman and Kelly Healey along with Viticulturist John Evans stand by the philosophy of producing the best fruit possible in the vineyard and allowing the wines to express the individuality of the vineyard and each growing season.
20yo vines from four vineyards, wild yeast open-fermented with 20% whole bunches, 19 days on skins, matured for 10 months in barrel (20% new). Counter intuitively has the deepest and brightest colour; a rich powerhouse that has no right to be as good as it is. Perfectly pitched spices illuminate both the bouquet and palate, whole bunches playing a role, as do tannins. Drink to: 2032; Price: $30.00; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 95 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
