The Robert Oatley Signature Series draws on a remarkable portfolio of vineyards nurtured by the winemaking talent of Larry Cherubino showcasing Australia’s most successful wine styles and regions. Bob Oatley’s mantra was that all wines should be a “darned good drink”, and the high quality Signature Series delivers immediate appeal, with satisfying flavours over an elegant frame. Each wine embodies the grape variety and region in which it was grown.
A full-flavoured yet finely structured Cabernet of great appeal: black berries, dried leaves and fine gravelly tannin, reflect an outstanding year.
This is first-class Margaret River cabernet at an economy price. It has elegance and poise, the cassis and black-olive flavours fresh and detailed, the crisp tannins likewise. The colour, too, is bright and clear. Drink to: 2033; Price: $24.00; Date Tasted: Nov 2020; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star & Top 100 Wines for 2020; James Halliday Wine Companion
It is immediately obvious just how young this wine is. Spices and dark fruits dominate. There is plenty of grip, but the tannins are very fine and there is excellent length here. A finely balanced wine with an exciting future. Some chocolate emerged with time in the glass. From an excellent Margaret River vintage this is a wine which should drink very well over the next ten to twenty years. Drink: 2023 - 2035; Rating: 94 Points; Ken Gargett
