The dictionary definition of ‘Riposte’ (pronounced rip-posst) is comeback, reply, retort, or in the context of the sport of fencing a quick counter stroke. After over a decade of confusion about his name ‘Riposte’ was chosen as an appropriate name for a ‘comeback label’ by Tim Knappstein.

The 2021 vintage was superb for Piccadilly Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The 2021 ‘The Foil’ shows vibrancy and depth with elegant passionfruit and floral notes. A long driving palate of intense fruit tapers cleanly to a crisp, finely balanced conclusion.

Sourced from higher Hills territory in the Piccadilly and Carey Gully districts, accentuating the already cooler seasonal characters that are apparent here. The fragrance is attractive – lemon/ lime juices, crunchy, almost green pineapple rather than overtly passionfruit tropicals, with a breath of lemon scented gum in the background. The palate leans to a gastronomic sourness rather than more commercial sweet styling, which makes for a tasteful table companionship rather than simple sunset drinking. A finishing spice note adds to that even further with a lingering, salivating end note. Price: $24.00; Rating: 93 Points; Tony Love

Few people know the Adelaide Hills like Tim Knappstein and naturally, this shows in his wines. Match that with a cracking vintage and wines like this are as close to can’t-miss as you could wish. Pale lemon in colour, this is quite pungently aromatic. A punchy, lifted nose. Tropical notes, spices, cut grass and gooseberries. This is no shrinking violet, so if powerfully flavoured Savvy is your thing, get on board. Clean and fresh, this has focus and excellent length. Savvy lovers will be delighted with this wine. Enjoy now and for the next couple of years. Drink to: 2025; Price: $24.00; Rating: 92 Points; Ken Gargett
