The Pousse d’Or domaine at Volnay was established in 1954. Its vineyards are anything but ordinary, consisting as they do mainly of premier and grand crus in the villages of Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Corton, Pommard, Volnay, Puligny-Montrachet and Santenay. The domaine’s 18 hectares yield 90,000 bottles annually and are managed in a spirit of respect for terroir.
Le Domaine de la Pousse d’Or can be traced back to the Dukes of Burgundy and the year 1100. Since 1997, its new owner Patrick Landanger has invested considerable resources both in the vineyards themselves and in the arrangements for vinification and elevage.
A highly complex nose features notes of menthol, dark currant, raspberry, wood, spice and the barest hint of VA. The sleek, intense and wonderfully refined middle weight flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract, all wrapped in a well-balanced and impressively persistent finish. Good stuff in a built-to-age package. Tasted: Apr 2018 ; Drink: 2028+; Issue: 70; Rating 93 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound
