Pirramimma was founded by Alexander Campbell Johnston in 1892 and has been owned and operated by the Johnston family ever since. Winemaking at Pirramimma has been a family affair for over 126 years and is now in the capable hands of Geoff Johnston, a winemaking graduate of Charles Sturt University, grandson of the winery’s founder.
We dedicate the 1892 collection in honor and respect for the Pirramimma Clydesdale’s whom tirelessly toiled our land from 1892 to 1952, whom now rest in peace in our War Horse vineyard. For this oaked Chardonnay we selected fruit from our Katunga block and a 35 year old cool climate Kuitpo, Adelaide Hills vineyard. The wine displays a bouquet of honeydew melon, pear, white cocoa, and toasted cashew, with the palate delivering guava, lime and lemon sorbet, complemented by nutty spicy oak and a creamy texture.
A blend of grapes grown in McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills, this is fabulous fragrant on the nose showing golden peach, mango, lemon peel, nougat and cedar characters. The palate displays excellent weight and succulent fruit flavours together with stylish oak nuances, finishing wonderfully long and delicious.
