The late Leonildo ‘Nino’ Pieropan showed the world just how great Garganega can be. He recognised the importance of terroir early on, expanding the family’s hillside vineyards and creating the single vineyard wines Calvarino (1971) and La Rocca (1978). Today, sons Andrea (viticulturist) and Dario (winemaker), maintain the family’s profound commitment to the terroir and tradition of Soave and, more recently, Valpolicella.
Straw yellow with brilliant, greenish and golden reflections, the bouquet is fresh, ample & floral with notes of elderberry, apple, pear & lemon verbena on a background of almonds and nuts; fresh, elegant & well balanced on the palate, with a long finish.
2018 Review: Beautiful transparency and finesse to this Soave with lemon peel, green apples, thyme and sourdough. Very mineral and driven on the medium-bodied palate that carries deeply set acidity and citrus flavors long. Drink now: Rating: 93 Points; James Suckling
