‘Piano piano' means ‘slowly slowly' in Italian, and this is how Marc Scalzo and wife Lisa Hernan have approached the development of their business. Marc has a degree in oenology from CSU, many years' practical experience as a winemaker with Brown Brothers and vintage experience with Giaconda, John Gehrig and in NZ with Seresin Estate and Delegat's.
A lovely, elegant, suavely-structured shiraz with cool-grown pepper-spice aromas, the palate medium-bodied and harmonious, with refreshing acidity and fine, gentle tannins. Great early drinkability. Rating: 94 Points; Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Hand-picked, 10% whole bunch, 90% whole berry, wild yeast-open fermented, 14 days on skins, matured in French oak (31% new) for 20 months. A lovely medium-bodied wine that follows in the footsteps of the '16. It's vibrant and juicy, yet also brings texture and structure into play. Effortless elegance. A long life beckons. Drink to: 2040; Price: $42.00; Date Tasted: Mar 2020; Alcohol: 13.8%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
