Vale Peter Lehmann, a member of the Order of Australia, the original Baron of the Barossa, and a legend of Australian wine, helped shape the wine industry over seven decades. Peter Lehmann established the Tanunda-based winery that bears his name in 1979, creating a wine brand that today signifies quality Barossa winemaking. Each vintage, over 140 grape growers supply Peter Lehmann Wines with quality fruit from over 700 hand-tended vineyards located throughout the Barossa.
In the beginning we made just one Shiraz, the grape variety that has defined the Barossa as one of the world's great wine regions.  But we knew Shiraz that came from some vineyards was better than others - smaller, deeper in colour and more intensely flavoured - 'Little Black Jewels' we called them.  For over 20 years, Stonewell has been lauded as one of Australia's greatest wines and one of the world's greatest Shiraz." - Andrew Wigan

For some perspective on the quality of the 2010 release, the 97 Points from James Halliday is the highest he has ever awarded this wine. Yes, higher than the 96/100 he gave the famed 2008 and higher than the 96/100 given to the '09, '06, '04, '02 and '99 vintages which were considered the best made - until now. Halliday's note in full is:
Full crimson purple; while the provenance of the wine ensures there will be an abundance of flavours, there is a tension within the fruit expression that adds an X factor, drawing out the finish and leaving the mouth fresh. All in all a special wine from a special vintage destined for a very long life.  Alcohol: 14%; Drink to 2050; Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
