The Pawn Wine Co. had its beginning in 2002 as a “once” off experiment between 2 mates – winemaker Tom Keelan and vigneron David Blows. They had a craving to make small parcels of wine from alternative varieties growing on their Springhill Vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. They began to identify other idyllic viticultural sites and hand selected parcels of fruit within their Adelaide Hills vineyard to produce wines that were not only a bit unconventional, but enjoyable to drink, incredibly food friendly, and made in a style that reflects their true origins – the ultimate in hand crafted, Adelaide Hills, Artisinal wine.
A blend of grapes from both Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek vineyards, taken the finest characteristics of each, and handcrafted a full bodied wine that can be both a drink now style or cellar nicely for the medium term.
The shiraz comes from vineyards in the Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek, harvested approximately 3 weeks apart (Langhorne Creek first), each batch open-fermented and matured in new and used French and American oak. The wine is light to medium-bodied, fresh and vibrant, with red cherries, pomegranate, spice and pepper. A great drink at a great price. A gorgeous shiraz made from fruits grown in Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek; it is fabulous fragrant on the nose showing blackberry, plum jam, mint chocolate and cedar characters. The palate delivers excellent weight and fleshy mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by ripe fruit intensity and polished tannins, finishing long and delicious.
