Add to this his winemaker’s intuition and artistry and you have the formula for exceptional drinking experiences.
Artus is an artistic translation of our local Gin Gin clone into wine. It is a provocative, complex and textural wine exuding the seductive spirit of “old world” chardonnay. The vines have been managed to allow only dappled light into the fruiting zone.
Lime, pear, honey biscuits, vanilla and spice, a flicker of struck match. It’s powerful and slick, some custard powder and lime pie richness, something more nutty and savoury, tight and juicy acidity to balance with fine chalk dust feel, and a long gently buttery, yet fresh finish. Grand style of Margaret River Chardonnay on show here. Tasted: Oct 2021; Alcohol: 13.5%; Price: $53; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2021-2026+; Rated: 95 Points; Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front
A fine, detailed and complete version of chardonnay that is unmistakably Margaret River but also shows the results from plenty of care in the winery. Bright pale straw in colour, its shows beautiful concentration and focus of citrus, floral and nectarine fruits intermingled with savoury and smoky natural ferment and crushed cashew scented oak. It’s the real deal. There is also a rich vein of genuine flavour on the palate, as all great chardonnay should, with some buttery nuances and all wound up tight by cleansing acidity that drives through to a long and bright finish. Complexity builds as the wine sits in the glass which bodes very well for the cellar and you just know this wine will get better and better and better...Price: $53.00; Drink: 2024-2032; Rating: 96 Points; Wine Pilot
