Mt Difficulty is best known for some of the oldest vineyard sites in the unique microclimate of Bannockburn Central Otago, as well as their sister label Roaring Meg. They are focused solely on growing Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc across multiple distinct subregions of Central Otago. These vineyards are situated in Bannockburn, Lowburn, Pisa, Bendigo and Gibbston. The winemaking is with as little intervention as possible; all wild fermentations, low impact winery movements, filtration (sometimes), and no fining since 2009.

The 2021 Pinot Noir opens with luscious dark red and black cherry, dried wild herb florals, with a touch of savoury brown spice. As the wine dwells on the palate layers unfurl, revealing silken texture. Fine textured structure rises gracefully whilst being surrounded by a crunchy tang of acidity and a slight mocha note with some brown spice more vibrant red cherry notes on the long finish.
