Established in 1972 Mountadam High Eden estate is Australia’s first cool climate Chardonnay vineyard. Situated on a unique rocky outcrop ranging in elevation up to 550m, the vineyards have a commanding easterly aspect over the Eden Valley. This wine is made using tradition methods and is a blend of the exclusive multi clonal resources available on the estate.
This bottle fermented sparkling wine is made in the time honoured grower style. It has lifted fruit characters of strawberry, fig and red apple. Subtle characters of freshly baked bread and cream add to the wines complexity on the nose.
The tension and focus of this cool, high site sings in lemon, apple and crunchy pear fruit of good concentration and mid-palate depth, well toned by the creamy texture and almond meal complexity of 3 years lees age. A pale straw hue reflects its restraint, with a long finish carried by fine acidity and toasty complexity. A highlight in Eden Valley sparkling. Pretty decent fizz at a pretty decent price. Good mouthfeel, a bit of refinement, enough flavour and a sound, satisfying finish. Find it at a good price and you’d be doing very nicely. It tastes of peach and strawberry pie, sweet pastry and toast. It keeps tidy, tasty and juicy throughout. Think they’re on a winner here. Campbell Mattinson
