Established in 1972 Mountadam High Eden estate is Australia’s first cool climate vineyard. Situated on a unique rocky outcrop ranging in elevation up to 550m, the vineyards have a commanding easterly aspect over the Eden Valley. This wine is made using tradition methods and is a blend of the exclusive multi clonal resources available on the estate.
Wonderfully fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows Black Doris plum, blackcurrant, violet and almond characters with a dried herb complexity. The palate is succulent and plump, displaying excellent weight and fruit intensity, backed by smooth texture and fine, chalky tannins. Beautifully styled and structured with a persistent delectable finish. At its best: now to 2024. Rating: 93 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
Less convincing than the Shiraz of the same tier, this is still an eminently approachable wine of a considered, understated drinkability. The Five-Fifty series should be a strong consideration for any quality wine by-the-glass programme. Cassis, cocoa and spearmint billow along gentle tannic lines, reminding me of an Aussie Chinon. Rating: 91 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
