In 2002, Jason and Alecia Brown began their search for a vineyard from which to pursue their dreams of making world class Shiraz. It was a time when Australian wine was known largely for producing big, bruising, “blockbuster” styles. By contrast, it was Jason’s love for (and desire to make) wines of elegance, brightness and finesse that led them to the cool climate region of Hilltops in Southern NSW.

Over 23 days on skins, matured in new and used French oak. Bell-clear varietal character; juicy cassis fruit fills the bouquet and palate alike, oak and tannins where you need/expect them to be. Length and balance tick their boxes. Exceptional value. Drink to: 2030; Price: $25.00; Date Tasted: July 2019; Alcohol: 13.9%; Rating: 95 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion

Intense dark purple in colour with aromas of mint, sweet cassis, cigar box and chocolate. While the palate is complex and layered with good tight tannins, balanced by luscious fruit and a long finish. True to its cabernet profile, a good example of a cool climate cabernet. Enjoy now or keep for five plus years. Rating: 90 Points; Stephen Read; Wine Matrix
