Maverick Wines was established in 2004. The objective was and is to be one of the top premium boutique wineries in Australia. Although the company is young, Maverick owns 75 acres of vineyards from the top terroirs across the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. Approximately half of the vines are over 100 years old, and many much older.
Vine Vale in the very heart of the Barossa is famous for its sandy soils which produce outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the major component of this blend, from their "Twin" vineyards at Ahrens' Creek and Barossa Ridge. The other three thoroughbreds are Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc - all noble varieties from the same Twin vineyards. Together they reveal the beauty of the sum of the parts. The result is a wine of great flavour, intensity, vibrant fruit and texture.
A refined Bordeaux-style red; the bouquet shows crème de cassis, mulberry, vanilla, smoked game, thyme and violet notes, leading to a delightfully rounded palate that's plump and fleshy. It's beautifully rounded and smooth, finishing elegant and soothing. At its best: Now to 2025; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 93 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
