Maverick Wines was established in 2004. The objective was and is to be one of the top premium boutique wineries in Australia. Although the company is young, Maverick owns 75 acres of vineyards from the top terroirs across the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley. Approximately half of the vines are over 100 years old, and many much older.
Expressing precision as well as power, this gorgeously composed red shows cassis, spiced cherry, floral and roasted nut characters on the nose with a hint of tobacco complexity. It’s concentrated and splendidly textured on the palate, offering terrific weight and persistency, leading to a fabulously long satisfying finish. At its best: 2023 to 2032. Date Tasted: Aug 2020; Price: $50.00; Rating: 94 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
Medium crimson. Fragrant blackcurrant pastille, plummy aromas with herb garden/ liquorice notes. Fresh supple wine with attractive cassis, blackberry, dark plum fruits, fine loose knit grainy tannins, mid-palate viscosity and underlying savoury notes. Finishes chalky firm. A buoyant fruit driven style with lovely fruit definition and mineral length. Price: $50.00; Rating: 93 Points; Andrew Caillard MW
