Luigi Baudana is one of the last garagiste estates still operating in the Langhe region. It is also the smallest of all the VinConnect Piemontese wineries. In 2009, Francesca, Isidoro and Guiseppe, the three children of famed Aldo and Milena Vajra of G.D Vajra, joined the Baudana family to bring new energies and an uncompromised respect to this story.
This opens with lovely scents of iris, woodland berry, tilled earth and a whiff of eucalyptus. Smooth as silk and already providing lots of pleasure, the polished palate features ripe red cherry, star anise and crushed mint alongside fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. It closes on a hint of cocoa. Drink through 2028. Date: Jan 2022; Rating: 92 Points; Kerin O'Keefe; Wine Enthusiast
The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is redolent of savoury and ferrous notes woven into a core of dried red cherry fruit. Spice, mint and tobacco notes develop later, adding pretty shades of nuance. Readers will find a super-classic Serralunga Barolo, but one that won't need more than a few years to be at its best.
