Founded in 1978 on the prized Kimmeridgian soils around the village of Lignorelles which is north-west of the small town of Chablis. Roland’s two sons, David and Arnaud, work this 20ha lutte raisonnée Domaine. Ferments are temperature controlled in stainless steel and all but the Petit-Chablis sees a short time in 2 to 6-year-old barriques. Whilst the Vaudésir is a mighty Grand Cru the signature wine of the Domaine is the lieu dit ‘Vau Prin’ which is one of the highest vineyards in Chablis and transposes an extreme mineral puissance.
There is only a whiff of exoticism present on the citrus, pear, green apple and sea breeze-inflected nose. I like the intensity and minerality on the middle weight flavors that offer good length if only average depth on the dry, saline and bitter lemon-suffused finish. This should drink well early yet reward a few years of keeping too. Allen Meadows; Burghound
