Larry Cherubino has had a particularly distinguished winemaking career, first at Hardys Tintara, then Houghton, and thereafter as consultant/Flying Winemaker in Australia, NZ, South Africa, the US and Italy. He has developed three ranges: at the top is Cherubino; next The Yard, single vineyard wines from WA; and at the bottom the Ad Hoc label, all single region wines. The range and quality of his wines is extraordinary, the prices irresistible.
Ad Hoc is an assembly of varietal wines for any occasion, each wine sourced from its best-suited region in Western Australia. Aromas of red earth, ground black spice and dark berries. The palate presents fine, silky tannins, juicy fruit flavours of blueberry and dark cherry with undertones of spice.
A plume of exotic spices is threaded through the fragrant bouquet of plum and blackberry fruit, and the vibrant palate follows the lead with enthusiastic support. The texture and structure of the mouthfeel add a further dimension to a very, very smart wine. A knockout at this price.
