John Duval is one of the world’s best known winemakers. Toward the end of 2002, John retired from Southcorp after a distinguished career of 28 years, including 16 years as Chief Winemaker for Penfolds. John embarked on the development of his own label in 2003 using old vine Barossa Valley fruit and has created stunning wines that reflect the terroir of the Barossa and the hand crafted attention of John Duval.
Shiraz 100%, sourced from old vineyards Marananga, Eden Valley, Ebenezer and Krondorf regions. Traditional, low intervention winemaking techniques were employed with Entity, allowing the wine to be approachable in its youth, but with ample structure and fruit depth to allow great potential for improvement in the bottle.
Entity is always a complete, fabulous wine. Nothing out of place. Cherry picking fruit from sites off old vines across the Eden and Barossa Valleys. It is so polished, there's a sheen. Flavours of black fruits, licorice and woodsy spices all in sync. The key is beautifully shaped and plush tannins. Wonderful wine. Alcohol: 14.5%; Drink: to 2038; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
Polished Barossa shiraz that ought to have the status of a regional benchmark (if it doesn't already). Deep coloured with a complete, harmonious nose of beautifully integrated dark fruits, savoury and sweet spice, and cedary oak. It's plush and seamless across the palate with perfect balance, classy barrel influence and soft background tannins. A classic Aussie red wine. Drink: 2020 to 2035; Price: $55.00; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 95 Points; Ralph Kyte-Powell
Entity 2018 is all about generosity and harmony. Dark berries and plum are perfectly integrated with savoury and sweet notes of spice, cedary French oak is woven through without any woody edges. The texture is almost unctuously smooth, flowing long and velvety with perfectly integrated tannins worked through seamlessly. Lovely Australian wine. Drink: To 2035; Price: $55.00; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 95 Points; Ralph Kyte-Powell; The Real Review
