Hahndorf Hill is situated in the beautiful cool-climate wine region of the Adelaide Hills wine region in South Australia. They specialise in a range of Austrian grape varieties such as Gruner Veltliner and Blaufrankisch, as well as the more typical cool-climate classics such as Pinot Grigio, dry Rosé and an elegant Shiraz. Their award winning wines are made with hand-crafted care to complement your favourite cuisines.
Made unequivocally in the racy 'Grigio' style, this wine is loaded with lip-smacking green apple and crunchy nashi-pear, all wrapped together in a luscious, juicy acidity which is laced with a hint of musk. Vibrant and stimulating on the palate with an exciting mouth-feel that demands another sip. Enjoy with all white meats, pastas, all things vegetarian and your favourite seafood dishes. This Pinot Grigio will age well for 5 - 7 years.
2019 Review: I took this wine up to the house after my daily tasting to make sure I hadn't lost my senses. (I hadn't.) A storm-induced crop loss of 60% saw the grapes hand-picked from two Adelaide Hills sites, chilled overnight, whole-bunch pressed and flash-oxygenated to eliminate anthocyanin colour contribution, then cool-fermented in stainless steel, racked off lees asap to prevent 'plumping up'. An ever so fine distillation of nashi pear, a prodigiously long palate and crunchy acidity. Three gold medals and a trophy pre end-'19. Drink by: 2025; Price: $25.00; Date Tasted: Dec 2019; Alcohol: 12.5%; Rating: 96 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
