Fontanafredda is located in the heart of the Langhe and has a winemaking history dating back to 1878. A truly unique estate that is a joy to visit, including a Michelin star restaurant, hotel and truffle forest, Fontanafredda is a joy to visit. The estate stretches over 250 acres of hilly terrain in the villages of Serralunga d’Alba, Barolo and Diano d’Alba in the centre of Piedmont. The vineyards lie on mostly evenly-contoured hillsides and rounded ridges at an altitude of between 200 – 400 metres.
100% Nebbiolo. When young, it features a fragrance which is wonderfully spontaneous and full of surprise: in its bouquet, colour, and generous, velvety body this Langhe Nebbiolo brings out all the typical qualities of the magnificent vineyards it is made from. Later in life its colour becomes garnet-red with strong orange shades, and its nose deepens, with traces of withered flowers, such as roses and, above-all, geraniums. Its warm, soft, well-bodied flavour is velvety and well-balanced, lingering in the mouth
Red fruit, bright, spicy, perfumed, some new leather in the mix. Medium bodied, light rasp of tannin, fresh fruit, autumnal notes, grip and energy on the finish. Delicious wine, already. Character and intensity aplenty for an entry level wine. Tasted: Sept 18; Alcohol: 13.5%; Price: $28; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2018-2026; Rated: 91 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
