The Sancerre vineyard of Fontaine Audon is owned by Langlois Chateau. This 15 hectare vineyard surrounds one of the rare “Château” in Sancerre, in St Gemme to the north west of the Appelation on the excellent Terroir à Silex (flint). It was created in 1912 by Edouard Langlois and his wife Jeanne Chateau, with the help of the Baron de Bodman.
A terroir of flint brings this wine a mineral flavour. Very expressive nose, perfectly typical of the grape varietal, with citrusy and exotic fruit notes. On the palate, very good balance and freshness.
The 2018 Sancerre Château de Fontaine-Audon is a charming, nicely balanced, medium-bodied effort offering pretty white peach and citrus fruits as well as some classic Loire sappy herb and minerality, nicely integrated yet racy acidity and a clean, crisp finish. Drink this impeccably made, versatile Sancerre over the coming 2-4 years. Rating: 90 Points; Jeb Dunnuck
