Dave Fletcher is a very talented young winemaker with an extreme passion for Nebbiolo. He is sourcing fruit from carefully selected Vineyards both here and in Northern Italy with the sole intention of producing his own style of single Vineyard Nebbiolo. Dave respects the tradition of the variety but prefers to make his wines in a modern style with balance and fruit purity very high on his agenda. The Fletcher wines are an incredible study in the enigma that is the Nebbiolo grape. As Dave has spent more time in the vineyards of Piedmont his list of wines has grown too.
Tightly wound, tense and bright, sour cherry, black tea, cranberry tang, a faint nutty creaminess, very young and perky with tannins that ripple with black tea character and a mouth-watering freshness. It’s pent up stuff here, lots of detail, layers of Chinese five spice, green herb, that red fruits character going strong. Feels built for a very long haul. Delightful now, though, albeit perhaps tough with tannin for some. Not for me. Tasted: May 2021 Alcohol: 14.0%; Price: $80; Closure: Cork; Drink: 2021-2040; Rated: 95+ Points; Mike Bennie; The Wine Front
