John Evans and John Tate started planting vines in Wilyabrup, in the heart of Margaret River, in 1974. They named the vineyard Redbrook, after Tate's beloved Daschund. It was in 1987 that the Evans & Tate Semillon Sauvignon Blanc (Dry White) was first released. Thirty years on, it remains one of Australia's best selling Margaret River wine brand.
This is the first vintage of Chardonnay to be made in the ever-popular Breathing Space range. The vineyard used to create this wine consistently produces fruit with rich yet fresh flavours early in the season with the ideal acid balance to allow this wine to be bottled and released early without sacrificing texture or complexity. This ensures the class of Chardonnay expected from a region with such a prestigious history for the variety.
The first vintage of chardonnay under this label. Cool, cloudy juice delivered direct to 1yo French oak, wild ferment at ambient temperatures, thence to 10 degrees C storage with stirring until bottled. It's amazing how a wine of this provenance and quality has a likely price of $16-17 from the larger retailers.
