Domaine Leflaive is an estate that needs no introduction to lovers of the greatest wines of Burgundy. Anne-Claude was a pioneer of the biodynamics in France and it is fitting that under the domaines Leflaive & Associes negociant label, she continues to support the movement. Anne-Claude traveled around France to wine regions, meeting biodynamic growers and as a result, bottles wine from some of the top growers under the label. Domaine Leflaive viticulturist, Eric Remy works with the growers throughout the year taking full control at harvest and bringing the fruit back to the Domaines cellars in Puligny-Montrachet for vinification.
The Macon Verze is a wine of great purity, both floral and mineral, expressing a lively energy, ready to be enjoyed earlier than the wines of Puligny-Montrachet.
The Domaine Leflaive Mâcon-Verzé 2016 (A$65) has a reticent nose, showing a fresh, white nectarine aroma. The palate’s similar in character and beautifully balanced, and Hooke agreed. "Reserved but quietly complex," he said. "Shaved almond, smoky, nutty aromas, developing honey as it aired and warmed. The palate is tight and refined, taking a while to open up, but growing more and more impressive. Subtle smoky buttery overtones. It will live on." Rating: 94 Points; Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine
Very light colour; backward. Shy, reserved but quietly complex shaved-almond, smoky nutty aromas, developing honey as it aired and warmed. The palate is tight, reserved and refined. It took a while to open up, growing more and more impressive. Subtle smoky buttery overtones. Backward and just a bit shy, but it has underlying complexity and will live on, for sure. Drink: 2019 to 2024; Price: $63.00; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 93 Points; Huon Hooke; The Real Review
