Founded in 1968, Diamond Creek is California’s first exclusively Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Vineyard. Visionary pioneer Al Brounstein defied modern conventions and planted Bordeaux varietals on secluded Diamond Mountain.

When he began clearing the land, Al quickly discovered a jackpot of different soils. As he planted the nearly 22 acres of vines, he designated four distinct vineyards, none more than 60 feet apart: Volcanic Hill, Red Rock Terrace, Gravelly Meadow and Lake. Al was one of the first vintners in California.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Volcanic Hill is blended of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out of the gate with exuberant black cherry cordial, plum preserves and blueberry pie notions with touches of dark chocolate, cinnamon stick, cloves, camphor and candied violets. Full-bodied, the palate is decadently fruited with black and blue berry layers, framed by firm yet plush tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with wonderfully long-lasting, opulent baking spice nuances. Tasted: Sept 19; Drink: 2021-2055; Rating: 99 Points; Lisa Perrotti-Brown; Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
