Deep Woods Estate was established in 1987 and acquired by the Fogarty family in 2005, making it part of the Fogarty Wine Group. Under the FWG banner, Deep Woods Estate has been transformed into one of Margaret River’s most awarded and highly regarded wineries.

The fruit for this wine came from select vineyards across the region, a large component of which was hand-picked. The fruit was whole-bunch pressed directly to two- and three-year-old French oak barrels with each of the parcels kept separate before blending. The wine was allowed to ferment 'wild' using indigenous yeasts and subsequently matured on lees for 6–8 months depending on the parcel. Little or no malolactic fermentation occurred. This Chardonnay is fresh, fulfilling, uncompromising and made true to the Deep Woods Estate 'house style'.

Fruit is sourced from a number of vineyards across Margaret River. Partially barrel fermented and matured in French oak (10% new) for 6–8 months. The intensity and concentration that 2020 will surely become known for is on display here in full force. Normally it can be challenging to find decent chardonnay at this price, as quality oak and clever winemaking are important and neither come cheap. This is an exception. Cracking wine. Drink to: 2027; Price: $20.00; Date Tasted: Jan 2021; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 93 Points & Special Value Star; Erin Larkin; James Halliday Wine Companion
