De Bortoli is a founding member of Australia's First Families of Wine and famous among the cognoscenti for its superb Noble One, which in fact accounts for only a minute part of its total production.
The majority of the Shiraz is grown by Ian and Lynn Rathjen, Willoughby Bridge Vineyards and Chinamans Bend planted on an easterly facing sections of the Mt Camel range. Proper farmers, salt of the earth, with an understanding of their land and vines. The Heathcote Ridge Vineyard produces some of the most compelling and perfumed Grenache I have seen giving the blend charm and perfume. A little addition of Willoughby Mourvedre gives the classic earthern characters of the variety.
The bouquet is as expressive as you might expect, the perfume of the grenache adding to the red cherry and black berry fruit flavours. The texture and structure of the tannins add significantly to the excellent quality of the wine.
