CW Schoolhouse Headmaster Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
In 1850, 12 miles north east of Penola, Mr John Smith established a sheep station and called the site Comaum. By 1888, with the arrival of more families to the area, Comaum School was opened. Our premium Coonawarra vineyard is situated on the original school house site, and each year a special wine is released in its honour.
Intense blackcurrant and black plum, with notes of spice and cooling dried herbs. Ripe dark fruit, fine tannins and underlying toasty oak nuances create an intense and harmonious wine that reflects the Coonawarra terroir at its best.
Everything about this wine screams classic, familiar, pleasing Coonawarra cabernet, its aromatics lifted with cassis and mint chocolate, reverbing as you drink with a full-bodied backbone holding everything in place. Vibrant, dark berry fruit flavours, deftly supported by good oak without dominating, and discernible yet mild tannins to finish. Very tidily delivered for a terrific Coonawarra cabernet experience for all comers. Rating: 94 Points; Tony Love; Winepilot
A wonderful rendition of the variety; the immediately appealing bouquet shows cassis, floral, cedar and subtle spice notes with a touch of tobacco complexity. It's concentrated and flavoursome on the palate, delivering excellent fruit purity and persistency. Opulent and stylish at the same time, offering terrific drinking. At its best: 2020 to 2034; Rating: 95 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
